Necromancy

When I was a small kid in Teluk Anson,I and my brother used to follow our mother around town.I remember one such trip she went with a couple of her friends to consult with a medium in the out skirt of town by the side of the Perak river.

It was an old wooden attap house and in it were altars of various deities. There was the Goddess of Mercy in the Centre,a Chinese ancient warrior with the red face and holding his beard, the Monkey God and many others. As small boys we actually never knew what we were there for,but from those women whispering we overheard that they were there to request the services of the medium to bring back the spirit of a dead man from Hell.

In any case we were told to sit quietly by the side away from them.In side that house they met with an old hunchback woman. One of our mother's friend told that old woman she wanted to speak to her husband who was already dead for many years and requested the old woman's aid to bring his spirit from Hell..

"No problem",she replied in Cantonese and began lighting joss sticks for all "Gods"around. There so many of them and each of them were given three joss sticks stuck in the mugs in front of them.On completing paying her respect to all those "Gods",she sat down on front of a table placed in front of all the altars.

Following she spread a hand full of uncooked rice over the table at the same time chanting her prayers to appease all the spirits present and to call Hell to release that man in Hell temporarily. Then she laid flat on folded arms on the table without stopping her chanting of prayers. What she said in her prayers were quite inaudible and we did not understand what she was marveling.

Actually she was requesting through her prayers to the Guardian of Hell to release the woman's husband momentarily from Hell as his wife wished speak to him.
It did not take long for her to contact Hell and brought that woman's husband spirit up.For within minutes that very the old woman medium sprang up suddenly to the surprised of everyone present. My brother and I also jumped up in shock and fear. That sudden surge really shocked all present.

"Why have come for?",the old woman in a trance as if a man had entered her body shouted in a coarse voice.pointing at the same time at his wife. The old woman acted as though she was an old man with eyes closed and shivering vigorously but looking the way his wife stood. The wife being frightened at the sight replied in a frightening tone,"I had a dream from you.You said in that dream,You are in need of plenty of things and you want me to sent all those to you,but I am not sure what you want?'.

"Why?You stupid woman,I need more money, send me more.I want a new house and servants.Aayai!!!! send me all other things you can think of",the medium replied.
"How are you over there?"she further asked him.

"No good! no good ! Hell very corrupted,I want more money to bride all the officials there otherwise they punished me more seriously, cannot complain to any one - all corrupted,,it is "Boleh Land" here, money talks.Got money no torturing,so send me more money",he further said." Anyway how are my children?""And You???".

"All your sons and daughters are doing fine ,all furthering their studies in the Universities and as for me I have since remarried",said the woman."What??? I went away to Hell - you remarried some else???You....."At this all of a sudden he was recalled back to Hell and the medium felt flat on the table and it took sometime to revive her.For her service she was given an "Ang Pau" by the woman.

The wife was advised to burn more Hell Bank notes to him.together burn him also a big paper house,a paper car plus an effigies of a driver and some maid servants to pacify his spirit. So she gathered all those materials and allowed the medium to send then to Hell on her behalf.Apparently she disposed them to him by burning in the nearby jungle.

Thinking back.I can conclude that there was no truth whatsoever, the old woman medium was just pretending and put up an excellent show. What do you think?

to continue when inspired.
